Product details

(OBS this is NOT including yarn)

The Skagen Knit is also a robust, heavyweight sweater made from Hjelholt’s triple yarn. Like the Fisherman Knit, it can only be hand-knitted, as the yarn is too thick for machine production. But it’s a deeply rewarding project if you’re willing to invest the time.

The name is a tribute to the town of Skagen, a place we hold close to our hearts, and to the group of painters who lived and worked there in the late 19th century. For this design, we focused on a single motif - the cross - and repeated it across the entire sweater. The silhouette is long and oversized with a wide ribbed collar. Thanks to the dense yarn, it’s also exceptionally warm.

CONSTRUCTION
The sweater is an oversized model, worked in the round from the bottom up. The work is divided at the armholes, and the front and back pieces are then worked flat, each separately.

The shoulders are shaped with short rows, and finally the shoulder stitches are joined with the 3-needle bind-off.

Stitches are picked up along each armhole for the sleeves, which are worked in the round on circular needles from shoulder to wrist. Stitches are picked up along the neckline for the collar. The collar and sleeves are worked using the Magic Loop technique or alternatively on double-pointed needles.

The right and left sides refer to the sweater’s right and left sides.
